I implemented recycling into my household as a way of being greener and to see how many recyclable materials we were throwing into normal trash bags without realizing..

[Audio] What did I Expect?
I expected that there would be more recyclable trash than there was from my household. I didn't realize how much recyclables we were throwing away into normal trash without even thinking..

Week 1 and 2 my family and I were still trying to get used to recycling as we hadn't done it for so long, we always had 2 trash cans right next to each other, so we were getting confused sometimes and putting things in the wrong bin..

By week 3 my family and I were used to the recycling and started to see how many things like glass bottles and cans we were throwing away instead of recycling..

[Audio] Weeks 5 and 6
Weeks 5 is where we saw the most waste because we had a family function at my house so there was a spike in how much recyclable waste we produced.
Week 6 we saw less waste than we had seen the whole time with only half a blue bag full of waste..

Weeks 7 and 8 also did not have too much waste we produced just 1 full blue bag and a few cans within these two weeks..

No, it did not go as I expected I expected to see a lot more trash from just my family as we are a family of 6.
I also did not expect it to be as difficult as it was to fully implement recycling into my household..

Some challenges I had along the way was trying to remember when I'm throwing something away to make sure I'm putting it into the right bin.
It was even more of a challenge trying to get my family to do it as well..

In Bermuda we Generate around 82,000 tons of recyclable waste annually. Yet we only recycle around 1,640 tons annually. That means we recycle around 2% of our annual recyclable waste.
This is very low compared to the average percenage in the USA where they average around 35%..
