Case Background: Stacey, 37 years old, was raised in a strict Mormon family. Experienced a lot of emotional and physical abuse during childhood. Presenting symptoms: She had a social phobia that affected her ability to engage in social interactions. She had poor self-esteem which has its origins in feelings of guilt and inferiority She needs to rely on other people for help and care in an emotional or physical sense. Therapeutic Focus: She needs a strength-based approach to identify and build on Stacey’s resources. She also needs a solution-focused therapy emphasizing achievable goals and progress.

Relevant Terms. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): A psychiatric disorder caused by exposure to a traumatic event that includes symptoms like hypervigilance, avoidance, and unwanted thoughts (Di Tella et al., 2022). Hypervigilance: A heightened sense of danger, which may be observed in patients with PTSD due to trauma (Di Tella et al., 2022).
