Scene 1 (0s)

[Audio] Hello… Welcome to the training for becoming a Grants 'N Such Grant Writer. We realize that you may have had some experience as an editor, technical writer, or proofreader, or perhaps even as a grant writer. Our purpose is to show you the format that we use in our business. In this PowerPoint presentation, you can stop the video if you did not get all of the information. You are free to advance at your own pace..

Scene 2 (5m 0s)

[Audio] Take a minute or two and look at this introductory video for Grants 'N Such so that you will be familiar with the company you will be working with..

Scene 3 (10m 0s)

[Audio] This presentation focuses on the letter of inquiry or " LOI" since most of your work will contain such a letter at one point or another. Before writing an "LOI", the client's eligibility must be determined. In most cases, this will be done before you get the assignment. Continue to read the rest of this slide at your own pace. Advance when you are finished..

Scene 4 (15m 0s)

[Audio] The sections of the " LOI", are listed here and will be explained in the upcoming slides. If you have questions about any parts of this presentation, don't hesitate to call or send an email..

Scene 5 (20m 0s)

[Audio] The Introduction- Try to start with some dynamic attention-getters. Some examples are listed here and you may have some others..

Scene 6 (25m 0s)

[Audio] The introduction also includes additional elements..

Scene 7 (30m 0s)

[Audio] The need statement is the most important section of the letter. You have grabbed their attention in the introduction. Now you must persuade the funder of the need for the project. The next four ( 4) slides will help you develop a need statement..

Scene 8 (35m 0s)

3/10/22. 8. The Statement of Need. 8. • If the grant’s decision-maker reads beyond the introduction, you have successfully piqued his or her interest. Your next task is to build on this initial interest in your project by enabling the funder to understand the problem that the project will remedy. The statement of need will enable the reader to learn more about the issues. It presents the facts and evidence that support the need for the project and establishes that your nonprofit understands the problems and therefore can reasonably address them. • You want the need section to be succinct, yet persuasive. Like a good debater, you must assemble all the arguments. Then present them in a logical sequence that will readily convince the reader of their importance..

Scene 9 (40m 0s)

3/10/22. 9. The Statement of Need. 9. Decide which facts or statistics best support the project. Be sure the data you present are accurate. There are few things more embarrassing than to have the funder tell you that your information is out of date or incorrect. Information that is too generic or broad will not help you develop a winning argument for your project. Information that does not relate to your organization or the project you are presenting will cause the funder to question the entire proposal. Give the reader hope. The picture you paint should not be so grim that the solution appears hopeless. The funder will wonder whether an investment in your solution would be worthwhile..

Scene 10 (45m 0s)

Consider the Following Questions? Address all that are relevant to the current request..

Scene 11 (50m 0s)

Statistics. Approximately ___women were murdered in the US by their husbands or boyfriends in 2021..

Scene 12 (55m 0s)

[Audio] Statistics are numbers or facts that are used as a tool to convince the reader. The reader will feel that they cannot argue with facts and that statistics will prove what you are saying. They are used to convince the funder and to add factual weight to your position. You need to explain the need that can be met by your project. Describe the target population and geographic area. Provide significant statistical facts. Generalizations will not work here such as " many" or "a high percentage". Use real numbers, real people, real organization, real data.

Scene 13 (0m 0s)

[Audio] These are some sources where you can find statistics to support your position..

Scene 14 (1h 5m 0s)

[Audio] Now it is time to practice your skill. Select any one of the three topics for your practice. Limit your practice When your practice to one page. When you have completed your practice need statement section, email it to "ceo@grantsnsuch.net..

Scene 15 (1h 10m 0s)

[Audio] This is the conclusion of Session One. Session Two, the final session, will be emailed to you when you submit your practice work..
