[Audio] Hello… Welcome to the training for becoming a Grants 'N Such Grant Writer. We realize that you may have had some experience as an editor, technical writer, or proofreader, or perhaps even as a grant writer. Our purpose is to show you the format that we use in our business. In this PowerPoint presentation, you can stop the video if you did not get all of the information. You are free to advance at your own pace..
[Audio] Take a minute or two and look at this introductory video for Grants 'N Such so that you will be familiar with the company you will be working with..
[Audio] This presentation focuses on the letter of inquiry or " LOI" since most of your work will contain such a letter at one point or another. Before writing an "LOI", the client's eligibility must be determined. In most cases, this will be done before you get the assignment. Continue to read the rest of this slide at your own pace. Advance when you are finished..
[Audio] The sections of the " LOI", are listed here and will be explained in the upcoming slides. If you have questions about any parts of this presentation, don't hesitate to call or send an email..
[Audio] The Introduction- Try to start with some dynamic attention-getters. Some examples are listed here and you may have some others..
[Audio] The introduction also includes additional elements..
[Audio] The need statement is the most important section of the letter. You have grabbed their attention in the introduction. Now you must persuade the funder of the need for the project. The next four slides will help you develop a need statement..
[Audio] If the funder is still reading your proposal at this point, you are doing well..
[Audio] Make sure your facts are accurate.. 3/16/22.
[Audio] These questions will help you focus your need statement..
[Audio] Use strategies like these to create a sense of urgency..
[Audio] Statistics are numbers or facts that are used as a tool to convince the reader. The reader will feel that they cannot argue with facts and that statistics will prove what you are saying. They are used to convince the funder and to add factual weight to your position. You need to explain the need that can be met by your project. Describe the target population and geographic area. Provide significant statistical facts. Generalizations will not work here such as " many" or "a high percentage". Use real numbers, real people, real organization, real data.
[Audio] These are some sources where you can find statistics to support your position..
[Audio] Now it is time to practice your skill. Select any one of the three topics for your practice. Limit your practice When your practice to one page. When you have completed your practice need statement section, email it to "[email protected]..
[Audio] This is the conclusion of Session One. Session Two, the final session, will be emailed to you when you submit your practice work..
