Subject Pool. Welcome to the experiential portion of your Intro Psych course!.

Experiential Learning. The opportunity to participate in active research which is critical to furthering the understanding of human behavior. This portion of the course is REQUIRED by the Department of Psychology. It is separate from the course requirements your instructor will have for successful completion. All questions should be sent to subject.pool@umich.edu. Do NOT ask your instructor, your GSI, or a researcher. Through participation you will learn: Different methods of conducting research. What it’s like to participate in active research. Insight on how you may want to run your own research ..

Subject Pool Requirement. Earn 7 hours of Subject Pool Credits to fulfill the requirement 1 hour earned for the Prescreen Survey 1 hour earned for the Online Orientation Options for completing the requirement: Prescreen + Orientation + 5 hours of studies Prescreen + Orientation + 5 AWAs (Alternative Writing Assignment, 1 Subject Pool credit each) Prescreen + Orientation + 4 ARRs (Applied Research Reflection, 1.25 Subject Pool credit each) 7 AWAs Any combination of following: Prescreen, Orientation, studies, AWAs & ARRs For students under the age of 18, there are a couple of ‘simulation studies’ that can be completed to learn what an actual study may be like. Study formats: online, a virtual meeting, or in-person..

Subject Pool Requirement. If you are under 18 years old: You must submit a consent form from your parent or guardian, before you can participate in studies. The Consent form can be found on the Sona homepage & the Subject Pool web page on the Psychology website. Email the signed document to subject.pool@umich.edu If you turn 18 mid-term or later you most likely will need to submit AWAs and/or ARRs to complete the requirement. This term we are piloting a couple of Simulation Studies. These studies, while not actual studies, will give you the experience of what it would be like to be a participant in an actual study. These Simulation studies are ONLY available to students under the age of 18. If you never turn 18 during the term, you can only complete the requirement by completing Simulation studies, submitting AWAs and/or ARRs, or a combination of these items..

Steps to Get Started. On the first day of your Intro Psych class, you will receive 2 emails. One, is an email indicating you access to Sona, the other contains information about getting started From: Intro Psych Subject Pool Check your junk/Subject Poolam folder!!!! You will receive numerous email throughout the term. In Sona you can: Complete the prescreen and online orientation Sign up for studies Track your hours Find resources about Subject Pool policies Find resources for AWAs & ARRs Submit AWAs & ARRs Find important dates.

Steps to Get Started (cont.). Log in to Sona and complete the Prescreen Survey. This will be your first Subject Pool credit. Read the Student Guidelines. Check important dates. If you’re under 18- download the consent form and contact parent/guardian. The completed form should be emailed to: subject.pool@umich.edu. Sign up for and complete the Online Orientation. This will be your second Subject Pool credit. You will now be able to sign up for studies as they become available. Researchers will continue to add studies and timeslots throughout the semester. But don’t wait until the last few weeks. As the term comes to an end, there are fewer and fewer timeslots available. Now, let’s take a look at Sona..
