The Holy Father, Pope Francis, released its third encyclical letter entitled " Fratelli Tutti,"  which is translated literally as “brothers and sisters all.” The Pope uses the story of Jesus in Luke's Gospel, which is the famous Parable of the Good Samaritan. Luke presents Jesus as an inclusive God. “Luke underlines the fact that the love of God is inclusive and comprehensive, a love which crosses the geographical boundaries of Palestine as well as religious, cultural, social, political and economic boundaries.”

In Pope Francis’ “ Fratelli Tutti,"  the Gospel story used by the Supreme Pontiff to explain to the people; how to be an authentic follower of God is the story of the Good Samaritan.   Jesus illustrates the superiority of love over legalism. It is also the teachings of Jesus when he has done His sermon on the mount or the Beatitudes.

Philosophy focuses on doing service to other people in the east, which is Confucianism. In the encyclical letter of Pope Francis, it reminds the people to have a social responsibility with other people   In Confucianism, there is the concept of  Ren  translated as “Love.” It is good to look at Ren ( 仁 ) 's character to have fully grasped the connection of what the Holy Father stresses in his encyclical letter.  He asks to “simply spread the love of God   Among d conflicting meanings of the word in so doing. The etymology of  Ren ( 仁 ) consists of, on one side ( 亻 ) , the character signifying “human,” and on the other ( 二 ), the symbol representing "two."

In the story of the parable of the good Samaritan, a Samaritan "came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity.   In Confucianism, for the human to cultivate the highest virtue,  Ren  must-see in others' service.  Pope Francis said, "to care for the world in which we live means to care for ourselves." Moreover, man as a social being is not merely the product of his being. Pope Francis, “ Fratelli Tutti: On Fraternity and Social Friendship.”  Paragraph 17

The world is guilty of passing by someone in need without a second thought. It is easy to write them off as someone needing a handout, and a large percentage of people choose to ignore those in serious need of help.  Pope Francis calls each of human beings to “love that transcends the barriers of geography and distance, and declares blessed all those who love their brethren.”   Human beings reminded to have the responsibility and accountability for those in need.

In 1521, the arrival of the Spaniards led by Ferdinand Magellan in the “country changed the lives and the indigenous spirituality of the locals.   The Filipino people had a religious belief even before the Spaniards brought Catholicism.
