Scene 1 (0s)

[Audio] Welcome to The RCL Foods Westville SHE induction. This induction focuses on safety, health, environment and risk. The objective is to create awareness of workplace hazards, safety procedures, food safety awareness and emergency protocols, to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with government regulations..

Scene 2 (23s)

[Audio] Safety is a shared responsibility at RCL FOODS. Our slogan, "Safety: A Way of Life," reflects our commitment to keeping everyone on site safe—including you as a contractor. Your role in maintaining safety is vital. Employers are required by the OHS Act to provide a safe working environment, assess hazards, implement precautions, correct deviations, offer training, and enforce safety rules. Employees must ensure their own safety and that of others, follow procedures, and report unsafe conditions and incidents. By working together, we create a safer workplace for all..

Scene 3 (1m 9s)

[Audio] Contractor management Effective contractor management is essential for maintaining safety and compliance on site. Before arriving, contractors must submit a SHE file to the SHERQ team for auditing and approval. Only once approved are contractors authorized to come onsite. Upon arrival, contractors must sign in at security. The facilities team will be notified and will escort the contractor to the designated work area. No contractor may enter the building unescorted. If the work involves high-risk activities, a permit to work will be issued by the security team to ensure all safety protocols are followed..

Scene 4 (1m 53s)

[Audio] Building Access, Parking, Driving on Site, and PPE This section outlines the procedures for building access, parking, driving on site, and PPE requirements. Contractors must be signed in by Tsebo facilities personnel and register at the security entrance. After signing in, they will receive a "contractor" lanyard, which must be always worn. Correct PPE must be worn based on the scope of work. Contractors must always be escorted to their work area and cannot be signed in without prior notification to the facilities team. Parking rules include reverse parking to prevent collisions, and a strict speed limit of 10 km/h. Contractors must use designated visitor parking only. These measures help maintain safety and order in the building.

Scene 5 (2m 52s)

[Audio] Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE, is a critical component of workplace safety. Management must ensure that employees have the correct PPE and that it is used properly. Employees are responsible for maintaining their PPE and checking it before use. Contractors must wear the appropriate PPE for their tasks and ensure it is always worn correctly. Proper use of PPE helps prevent injuries and ensures compliance with safety standards..

Scene 6 (3m 24s)

[Audio] Emergency Preparedness and Response A critical aspect of ensuring everyone's safety in the event of an emergency. Emergencies can happen at any time therefore, it is essential to know exactly what to do. Step 1: Cease Activities As soon as the emergency alarm sounds, stop all work immediately. Listen carefully and follow the instructions of the evacuation marshal. If it is safe to do so, turn off any electrical equipment to prevent further hazards. Step 2: Exit Workstation Your safety is the priority. Calmly follow the emergency signage to the nearest safe fire exit. Avoid using elevators or the main stairway. Step 3: Proceed to Assembly Point Head directly to the designated assembly area. There are five assembly points located at the North, South, East, and West ends of the building. Evacuation marshals will sweep the building to ensure everyone has exited safely. Step 4: Roll Call Once at the assembly point, stand in an orderly manner. The facilities team and evacuation marshals will conduct a roll call to account for all contractors and visitors. Responsible managers must ensure that everyone under their supervision has safely evacuated. Step 5: Wait Remain at the assembly point until the Emergency Coordinator gives the all-clear to re-enter the building. Do not leave the area or return to the building until instructed. Important Reminders: - Do not use elevators or the main stairway during an evacuation. - Do not run, shout, panic, or push others. - Stay calm and assist others if needed. Being prepared and following these steps can save lives. Your cooperation is vital in maintaining a safe environment for everyone on site..

Scene 7 (5m 35s)

[Audio] Permit to Work (PTW) The Permit to Work system is a vital safety control for managing high-risk activities. Its purpose is to ensure that, beyond standard safety measures, additional controls are in place to mitigate risks associated with tasks like hot works, working at heights, confined spaces, and electrical work. Only trained and competent personnel may perform these tasks. A PTW must be issued by TSEBO personnel before work begins. This process ensures that all hazards are identified and addressed, helping prevent injuries and maintain a safe work environment..

Scene 8 (6m 16s)

[Audio] Incident and Injury Reporting Reporting incidents and injuries promptly is essential for maintaining safety and ensuring appropriate response. If you are involved in or witness any incident, accident, injury, or near miss, report it immediately to the TSEBO personnel overseeing the work. Contractors must report to the site supervisor or designated safety officer. Timely reporting allows for quick action and helps prevent future occurrences..

Scene 9 (6m 43s)

[Audio] To maintain a safe and respectful working environment, there are several important safety rules that all contractors must follow while on site. These rules are not just guidelines—they are mandatory practices designed to protect you, your colleagues, and the facility. Here's what you need to know: Smoking and Vaping Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside the building under any circumstances. This is to prevent fire hazards and maintain a clean, healthy air environment. If you need to smoke or vape, please use the designated smoking area located outside the canteen. Always dispose of cigarette butts in the provided bins. Waste Disposal and Spill Management Proper waste disposal is essential for both safety and environmental protection. Always use the correct bins for different types of waste. Never pour liquids or chemicals down any drains, as this can cause contamination or damage. If you see or cause a chemical spill, report it immediately to the TSEBO team so it can be addressed safely and promptly. Electrical Safety Electrical hazards can lead to serious injuries or fires. Do not overload electrical outlets and only use power cords that are in good condition. If you notice any damaged cords or exposed wiring, stop using the equipment and report it immediately. Stair and Walkway Safety Falls are one of the most common workplace incidents, and they're often preventable. Always use handrails when going up or down stairs. Avoid using your phone or other distractions while walking, especially on stairways. Move carefully—never run—and stay aware of your surroundings. These rules are simple but essential. Following them helps ensure that everyone on site can work in a safe, efficient, and respectful environment..

Scene 10 (8m 36s)

[Audio] Hazard Communication Clearly mark areas where high-risk work is being performed to ensure hazard awareness. Manual Handling Use proper lifting techniques—bend your knees, keep your back straight, and lift with your legs. Ask for help with heavy or awkward items. PPE Compliance Always wear required PPE such as safety shoes, hard hats, and high-visibility vests. Tool and Equipment Use Only use tools and equipment you are trained and authorized to operate. RCL FOODS enforces a zero-tolerance policy for firearms, weapons, illegal drugs, and alcohol. Violations may result in removal from the site. These rules are in place to protect everyone and maintain a productive environment..

Scene 11 (9m 32s)

[Audio] Understanding site-specific safety risks is crucial for preventing accidents. Be cautious of slippery floors and stairways—walk carefully and use handrails. Familiarize yourself with fire and emergency procedures, including evacuation routes and assembly points. Never use elevators during emergencies. Stay clear of electrical panels and installations unless authorized. Awareness of these risks helps ensure your safety and the safety of others..

Scene 12 (10m 4s)

[Audio] Thank you all for your attention and participation. Remember, Sherq is everyone's responsibility. By following the guidelines we've discussed, we create a safer environment for ourselves and our colleagues. Let's work together to keep our workplace safe, productive, and welcoming for everyone. Stay alert, stay safe, and let's make safety a way of life. Thank you..
