[Virtual Presenter] Good afternoon everyone. Today, I am pleased to present to you the work that I have been doing with Grade 7 students at The International School of Erbil. Over the last ten weeks, I have been teaching them topics such as references, acknowledgments, geothermal, convivial, muse, forlorn, impending, habitat, rhetoric, and theme. My aim is to help them progress and create a better world. Now let us take a look at the outcomes of this journey..
[Audio] Without greetings, beginning with 'Today', or thanks: I am going to explain the meanings of some important words. Reference is a source of information cited or consulted in a written work. Acknowledgment is a statement in a written work where the author expresses gratitude to those who contributed. Geothermal refers to the heat of the earth's interior, used as an energy source in heating and electricity production. A convivial atmosphere is a friendly, enjoyable and festive one. A muse is a source of inspiration who encourages creativity for an artist. Forlorn implies desolate or miserable, without hope or prospects. Impending suggests something about to happen or imminent. Habitat is the natural environment in which an organism or species lives. Rhetoric is the art of effectively and persuasively using language. Lastly, a theme is the subject or topic of a piece of writing or speech..
[Audio] Language proficiency is essential to understand the world around us and express our ideas and opinions effectively. Mr. Sardar's goal of "Heading Towards Excellence to Build a Better World" can be achieved by mastering the language. A good example of this is the filled in the blanks exercise which promotes language proficiency as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Let us all help to achieve the goal of ‘Heading towards Excellence to Build a Better World’..
[Audio] Accurate grammar and punctuation are of utmost importance. For example, the sentence "He will come to school where he taught us" should be changed to "He will come to school where he will teach us". Similarly, the sentence "Without a doubt humans have explored space a lot" should be changed to "Without a doubt, humans have explored space a lot". True or false questions also require carefully-crafted language for accuracy. For instance, in the story "Dark They Were, Golden Eyed", Harry Bittering is not excited about colonizing Mars, the environment of Mars does have an effect on the colonists and the story does explore themes of identity and the struggle to adapt to new environments. Meanwhile, in the poem "What if We Were Alone", the speaker does not believe that the natural world would be less beautiful without humans and William Stafford does not argue that humans have a negative impact on the natural world..
[Audio] We are discussing how the natural world has a kind of consciousness and interconnectedness, as suggested by William Stafford, which is indeed true. To demonstrate this, I have provided an example for each of the words in the box, such as evidence presented in the court being dubious, the school administration being responsible for maintaining discipline, the plague decimating the population of the city, and so on. Understanding the implications of these words is important in order to gain a better understanding of our world and move closer to excellence and build a better world..
[Audio] We will be examining Ray Bradbury's short story, "Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed". It tells the story of a family of colonists sent to Mars and the peculiar effects that the planet has on them. We will analyze the setting of the story, Harry Bittering's views on settling Mars, and how the Martian environment influences the colonists. Now let us begin delving into this captivating tale and analyzing its various intriguing topics..
