Scene 1 (0s)

[Virtual Presenter] Malaysian women's co-operative performance is a complex and multifaceted issue. One key factor that cannot be overlooked is the structural empowerment of women and the effectiveness of the Malaysian government in achieving improved performance. My research aims to examine how government effectiveness can mediate the relation between structural empowerment and co-operative performance. I will be exploring the various measures the government can take to aid in the success of Malaysian co-operatives..

Scene 2 (30s)

[Audio] This slide of my presentation is focused on research on Malaysian women's cooperatives with an emphasis on how structural empowerment and government effectiveness can impact their performance. The research includes outlining the objectives and questions creating theoretical frameworks and methodology determining the scope and significance of the study and providing a recap and conclusion..

Scene 3 (54s)

[Audio] Structural empowerment and government effectiveness are key factors that play a role in the performance of women's co-operatives in Malaysia. Co-operatives provide women with key resources including access to credit markets and training which contribute to economic empowerment and the development of confidence. Various countries have seen success stories as a result of co-operative participation from India Indonesia Bangladesh Turkey Brazil and Africa. In Malaysia the government has encouraged the involvement of women in co-operatives resulting in a strong socio-economic advancement for women..

Scene 4 (1m 34s)

Scene 5 (2m 34s)

[Audio] Data reveals a steady growth in money and investments directed towards Malaysian women’s co-operatives since 2018. This growth is best evidenced by the increase in the number of members from 247 to 256 between 2018 and 2022 followed by the rapid growth in subscriptions and assets. Also the turnover of the co-operatives has increased drastically from 12.51 million RM each year to 16.67 million RM in 2021. Taken together this data clearly suggests that the performance of Malaysian women’s co-operatives depends on both structural empowerment and government effectiveness..

Scene 6 (3m 20s)

[Audio] Structural Empowerment and Government Effectiveness are key elements to successful Malaysian Women's Co-operatives. Statistics from the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission show that only 1% of the total RM45.5 billion turnover of co-operatives in 2022 came from women's co-operatives and only 5 out of 141 co-operatives achieved turnover of more than RM200000. Although women have received assistance from the government such as services and training programs they still lack support to progress in high-value sectors and expand their businesses. Studies have used the Conditions of Work Effectiveness (CWEQ-II) to measure rural women's structural empowerment and found it to be higher in comparison to urban women. Yet there is limited research investigating government effectiveness and its effects on co-operative performance. Analysing structural empowerment and government effectiveness may help determine how Malaysian Women's Co-operatives can be more successful in the future. Exploring industrial and theoretical perspectives can provide beneficial insight into the application of this..

Scene 7 (4m 35s)

[Audio] There are several gaps present in the Malaysian Women's Co-operatives which impede their performance. These gaps involve population empirical evidence and knowledge. Though one research has examined the impact of Structural Empowerment (S-E---) in the cooperative sector the relationship between SE and co-operative performance specifically concerning women’s co-operative is unidentified. Also research on the effect of Government Effectiveness as a moderator is limited. Although the government implements multiple assistance programs the turnover of women's co-operative only constitutes 0.03% of the co-operatives’ total turnover of RM45.5 billion in 2022. Furthermore the training programs of the government are misaligned with the co-operative necessities. Contrary findings on government subsidies have also been observed. Finally despite several studies exploring SE as a single construct the effect of every dimension of SE on organizational performance has not been seen fully..

Scene 8 (5m 42s)

[Audio] A table in this slide demonstrates the research objectives research questions and hypotheses concerning the influence of Structural Empowerment access to information access to resources access to opportunity and access to support on Malaysian Women's Co-operative Performance. Research into these topics and questions seeks to explain the relationship between structural empowerment access to resources and Malaysian Women's Co-operative Performance. Additionally the research will look into how government effectiveness moderates all of these relationships. Analyzing these relationships will provide insights to how to better promote and empower Malaysian Women's Co-operatives..

Scene 10 (6m 34s)

[Audio] As demonstrated by Pedro and others (2020) and Dubey and others (2023) Structural Empowerment and Government Effectiveness are essential components to the success and performance of Malaysian Women's Co-operatives. Structural Empowerment refers to the empowerment of members by equipping them with the tools knowledge and decision-making power they need to be an active part of cooperative activities. On the other hand Government Effectiveness is about the government's ability to design and effectively implement policies which benefit the co-operatives. Both of these aspects are integral to the performance of Malaysian Women's Co-operatives..

Scene 11 (7m 17s)

[Audio] Structural empowerment has been identified as having a major impact on employees' confidence in decision-making. Resources like funding and information help to improve employees' performance while access to support increases job satisfaction and encourages collaboration to achieve collective results. Access to opportunity has also been linked to improvements in organizational performance employee commitment job performance and job satisfaction. Additionally effective government is related to increased access to information resulting in increased office productivity co-operative sales and cash flow as well as boosting board members' confidence to take on roles..

Scene 12 (8m 27s)

[Audio] Our research has found that structural empowerment and government effectiveness have a direct relationship with co-operative performance. These two variables encompass access to information resources opportunities and support in the case of structural empowerment while government effectiveness encompasses a range of indices from 1 to 18. This was based on the work of Kanter (1993) Dubey and others (2023) and Lajuni and others (2019)..

Scene 13 (9m 1s)

[Audio] The aim of this study was to examine the influence of structural empowerment and government effectiveness on the performance of Malaysian women's co-operatives. A quantitative and cross sectional survey was conducted with a sample size of 178 board members of the 247 women's co-operatives in Malaysia. The questionnaire included an interval scale of seven likert scales with established validity and face validity. Data was collected on structural empowerment co-operative performance and government effectiveness as well as demographic information. Descriptive statistics linear and multi-level regression analysis and a partial least squares structural equation modelling were applied to analyse the data..

Scene 14 (9m 48s)

[Audio] Examining the impact of structural empowerment and government effectiveness on Malaysian women's co-operative performance is the focus of today's discussion. We will look at four dimensions of structural empowerment in relation to co-operative performance as well as the effectiveness of policies’ implementation and support from co-operative-related agencies M-C-S-C and MCI. Through gaining a better understanding of these factors we aim to empower Malaysian women's co-operatives to reach their full potential..

Moreover it may verify the sense of empowerment of women board members of co-operatives and deepen our understanding of the impact of co-operatives on the economic empowerment of women..

Scene 16 (10m 57s)

[Audio] Analysis of data reveals a strong correlation between government effectiveness and structural empowerment and the performance of women's co-operatives in Malaysia. This suggests that the dynamics of these two aspects have a positive impact on the advancement of knowledge about these co-operatives thereby leading to their increased success..

Scene 17 (11m 18s)

[Audio] Structural Empowerment and Government Effectiveness have a great influence on the performance of Malaysian Women's Co-operatives. Structural Empowerment considers the structural components and setting which affect a co-operative’s ability to do well while Government Effectiveness is the degree of efficiency in which the government provides an enabling environment for the success of women's co-operatives. Research has shown that the higher the structural empowerment and government effectiveness in a society the better the performance of the women's co-operative including increased membership profitability and sustainability. To ensure that Malaysian women's co-operatives can succeed policies should be developed and implemented that emphasize and promote these two elements..
