RYONGAK MOUNTAIN LOCATION: PYONGYANG

A hill on the outskirts of Pyongyang and popular hiking spot. Enjoy the hike up to the top. Takes about an hour and is moderately strenuous.

View towards Pyongyang. The pyramid-shaped structure on the horizon is the Ryugyong Hotel.

BEST TIMES TO VISIT Since you’ll be outdoors, it’ll be best to visit when the weather and the season is good. Sundays are good to mix with local hikers.

FACT FILE According to North Koreans, Kim Il Sung used to love to come here when he was a boy. The other kids were scared off by its name (“ ryong ” means dragon), but that never discouraged Kim Il Sung, the courageous young lad he was.
