Symptoms are similar to the affects trauma has on a child, but some are more extreme and considered inexcusable in society. Substance Use – substance use is extremely common with trauma victims, it allows an escape from their pain. Depression – Suicide, self isolation, refusing to go to work, all signs that can affect an adult’s everyday life. Lack of stability or routine- Adults (like children) are on edge, without a stable routine, the unknown could cause sudden outbursts.

Educate! Knowledge is power! Being able to know how to identify signs can save someone’s life.  Educate peers. We can’t heal this world alone, but we can start one by one. Educating peers on signs and resources can help save a life. Finding local resources! Even if it is someone that can step in, connecting a loved one to that resource is the first step to recovery! Being kind, caring and supportive. Not all victims wants to discuss their abuse or trauma, giving them comfortability to chose when, where and who to discuss it with, will only help them.

Local Resources(Vermont and New Hampshire)

211- Every state has a resource hotline for people in need of help with abuse, mental illness, homeless, etc. HeadRest - A sober living treatment home built to help people who suffer from substance abuse because of trauma. WISE- Woman’s advocate center for ones who suffer from trauma or abuse. Granite United Way- Resource center for people trying to live a healthier life and cope with unfortunate situations. The Doorway- A resource center for people suffering from substance abuse NHADACA- NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association is a wonderful place to become educated! They provide every type of trainings and resources to over addiction of help guide someone to do so!
