Assessment 1- Digital Presentation By Nasra Ali S4624463.
Here is the land, here is the sky. Here are my friends and here am I. We thank the Wurrundjeri people, for the land on which we play and learn. Hands up, hands down We're on Wurrundjeri land..
Introduction. Early childhood education is pivotal in educational and cognitive growth, meaning their growth in any field is founded in the initial years of a child’s life. One area of development that needs to be cultivated in the child's early years is STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) which has been proven to set critical foundation for individuals' economic and career development (Hamm & Boucher, 2017). (Hamm & Boucher, 2017). Therefore, in this presentation, I will use one of the STEM languages – Science as I find it the foundation for significant specializations and a description of the nature of the children's daily interactions..

MERRI CREEK. This area is called Merri Creek, The creek stretches from it’s headwaters at Wallan all the way to Birrarung (Yarra River) the name of the creek originated from the Woi-Wurrung language phrase ‘Merri Merri ’ which means ‘very rocky’. This an excellent opportunity to discuss with children about the water cycle and expose them to new vocabulary, I could explain interesting facts like how water is constantly on the move through the ocean, land, in the atmosphere, and underground, and is essential for life on earth. It is recycled over and over through a process known as the water cycle. During this cycle, water changes state between solids (ice), liquids (water), and gases (water vapor)..
Merri Creek. The learning activity could be extended by engaging children in water coloring and painting some of their favorite things in relation to water like waterfalls and the ocean. Explain to the children this is following our recent study of the water cycle. We have explored some key words like ‘’evaporation’’ ‘’ condensation” and ‘’precipitation’’ Also ask the children why water is important and why do we need it?.

Plants/rocks and Soil. Further, during our exploration of the natural surroundings I will explain terms like phosphorus, decomposition, microorganisms, carbon, and nutrients, organic matter, excess nutrients and soil. The critical elements I will use when teaching this will include plants, sky, and soil which I believe will improve their understanding of science. I could find different types of plants and leaves and then explain to children its relations to soil with sandy rocks and high temperatures. How these elements can affect a plant’s life cycle. I would also consider touring the edible native plants section of CERES and let children immerse in the experience by using all of their senses. The picture on the right, is my son’s hand holding a patterned/rugged foam rock which he actually discovered by the water..
Different types of Plants at CERES.
SKY AND RAIN. Another focus element will be the sky and its relationship with the land. For example, explaining to young children that rain forms from clouds. So they may have a little understanding of the rain mechanism. Therefore, I will explain to the children how the plants, through transpiration, increase the moisture content in the air and the condensation processes that form the clouds in the sky and then it eventually rains..
Seasons. Talking to children about the aboriginal season and climate is an important topic which i believe will enable children to really connect with aboriginal history..
Terra Playground. This amazing playground is located at Ceres. It would be great to give children a chance to release some energy playing and running around..
