Comparative adjectives are  used to compare a certain  characteristic  or quality between two or more things, animals or people .         (Los  comparative adjectives se utilizan para comparar una determinada característica o qualidad entre dos o más cosas, animales o personas .) EXAMPLE :        The mouse is  smaller than  the  owl.                    (El  ratón es más pequeño que el búho .)

Superlative adjectives express the maximum degree of a characteristic of an element with respect to others of the same group or condition .    ( Los superlative adjectives expresan el grado máximo de una característica de un elemento con respecto a otros de su mismo grupo o condición .) EXAMPLE: The fastest  car is the blue one .                 ( El auto  más rápido  es el azul .)

How are comparative and superlative adjectives constructed?

In one-syllable adjectives, the -er ending is generally added to comparatives. For superlatives, the article the is added before the adjective and the ending -est after it .  ( En los adjetivos de una sílaba generalmente se añade la terminación final -er en los comparativos. En cuanto a los superlativos, se añade el artículo the delante del adjetivo y la terminación -est detrás .)

In two-syllable adjectives, to construct the comparative, the particle more is mostly added in front of the adjective without altering the adjective, although in some cases the -er ending can also be added, although this is less frequent. To form the superlative, on the other hand, the particle the most is added in front without altering the adjective, or the article the can be added in front of the adjective and the ending -est behind  it.  ( En los adjetivos de dos sílabas para construir el comparativo se añade mayoritariamente la partícula more delante sin alterar el adjetivo, aunque en algunos casos también se les puede añadir la terminación -er, aunque es menos frecuente. Para formar el superlativo, en cambio, se añade la partícula the most delante sin alterar el adjetivo, o bien se puede añadir el artículo the delante del adjetivo y la terminación -est detrás .)

In adjectives consisting of more than two syllables, the particle more is added to the comparative adjectives in preceding position without any alteration.  In the case of superlative adjectives, the most is added in preceding position without any alteration . ( En los adjetivos formados por más de dos sílabas se añade a los adjetivos comparativos la partícula more en posición precedente sin que estos sufran ninguna alteración.  En el caso de los adjetivos superlativos, se añade the most en posición precedente sin que éstos sufran ninguna alteración .)

In irregular cases, a specific resultant shape is obtained without being governed by any rule . ( En los casos irregulares se obtiene una forma resultante concreta sin estar regida por ninguna norma .)
