Scene 3 (22s)

[Audio] What is Child Exploitation? Child exploitation refers to the abuse of children through: Child labour Forced begging Human trafficking Physical and sexual abuse Domestic servitude It deprives children of their rights, education, health, and a safe childhood..

Scene 4 (43s)

[Audio] Child Exploitation in Karachi Karachi is Pakistan's largest city and economic hub. Many children work in workshops, factories, restaurants, and households. Street children are particularly vulnerable to exploitation. Poverty and lack of educational opportunities contribute significantly to the problem..

Scene 5 (1m 17s)

[Audio] Child Exploitation: Key Statistics The Sahil "Cruel Numbers" Dataset: Sahil is the most widely cited NGO for child abuse research in Pakistan. Their periodic Cruel Numbers Reports monitor violence, abduction, and sexual exploitation. Nationally, they recorded 3,364 cases in 2024 and 3,630 cases in 2025. Karachi / Sindh Specifics: Historically, Sindh accounts for roughly 24% to 26% of Sahil's tracked national cases. Studies show a high concentration of working children are found in shops (22%), motor workshops (21%), and hotels/restaurants (18%). Research amongst working children estimates that 21% suffer from emotional abuse, 19% from physical violence, and 9% from sexual violence, with perpetrators often found in both home and workplace environments (WHO)..

Scene 6 (2m 59s)

[Audio] its Impact on child Psychological and Cognitive Impact Exposure to severe or prolonged trauma causes "toxic stress," which disrupts the healthy development of a child's nervous and immune systems. Physical Health Consequences Exploitation often leads to physical trauma, malnutrition, and a high risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. Behavioral and Social Impacts Exploited children, especially those subjected to criminal networks, are highly at risk for drug and alcohol addiction. Many may also develop a criminal record or display anti-social behaviour as a survival mechanism..

Scene 7 (3m 55s)

[Audio] Recommendations to overcome or control this issue are: In Karachi, reinforcement of currently undergoing interventions by private and public organisations is needed for the better implementation of such programmes at a larger scale. Current support and collaboration of government with different NGOs working on child labour issue is commendable and needs to be further emphasised. Evening schools and drop-in centres for working children are the role model in such urban settings and their numbers should be increased. There is an immediate need for the measurement of the magnitude of child labour in Karachi, and an assessment of the health status of these children. An adequate set of child-friendly laws and legislations are required for protection and well-being of children, with emphasis on proper implementation and continuous monitoring. There is need for continued advocacy involving all stakeholders..
