[Audio] Our program focuses on attendance, behavior, coursework success, college/career readiness and parent engagement or the A-B-C cubed plus p model. As a parent, you are an important part of our program..

[Audio] The purpose of the 21st Community Learning Center Grant Grant Program (21st C-C-L-C-) is to provide before and after-school, weekend, and/or summer school academic enrichment opportunities for children attending low-performing schools to help them meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading, mathematics, and science. In addition, programs may provide activities for youth development, drug and violence prevention, art, music, technology, character education, counseling, and recreation to enhance the program's academic components. The program also supports a component for family literacy and community outreach..

[Audio] Our team of certified educators will assist your child with achieving their academic goals by assisting them with homework and missing assignments as well as engaging them in interactive small group instruction. Additionally, they will receive support in maintaining a strong mental health through social emotional learning activities. We also want to spark their interest in career and college options..

[Audio] In addition to our team, we connect with community partners to make sure that our students are enriched on all level. Here is a growing list of our partners, they range from Wake Tech to golfing with First Tee, to building their leadership skills with Appointed to Lead and more..

[Audio] Next, we’ll review some of our policies and procedures. CHAMPS staff or volunteers are not permitted to transport students. Our program will use an outside agency to transport students on program aligned trips. Parents will be required to provide written permission for students to be transported for field trips..

[Audio] Attendance is an important part of your student’s success as well as the success of the program. We recommend that students attend 2 to 3 times a week. Parents are required to share any anticipated absences or pick ups to the student in advance. Your child will become inactive after 8 consecutive absences or 4 unexcused absences without a note from their guardian..

[Audio] Students will receive a snack each day to eaten during their designated snack time. Parents are required to provide a list dietary restrictions. This will help our team make sure that we are making safe snack selections for everyone..

[Audio] Parents, safety is 1st! Please stress the importance of arriving to and from CHAMPS afterschool in a timely manner. If it applies, we ask that parents pick their children up on time. If a student is picked up late 3 times, the staff will send written communication to their guardian. After 6 occurrences, the student will be dismissed from the program. In your registration packet, you will identify your preferred method of dismissal..

[Audio] We want everyone to enjoy their experience in CHAMPS afterschool. We will enforce the same rules that will apply during the school day. Also, students that are suspended during academic day will not be able to attend CHAMPS until they can return to school..

[Audio] Our next policies focus on emergency preparedness. In event of bad weather, we will follow the school district. If school’s closed, CHAMPS will close too. Also, in preparation for safety during the year, there will be monthly safety drills..

[Audio] Supervised access technology is an part of programming. Students will be asked to use their chromebook issued by their school..

[Audio] As you will hear throughout this orientation, safety in important. CHAMPS afterschool programming has zero tolerance for for child abuse/misconduct. CHAMPS staff members are mandated reporters. So, if your child share something that may need additional investigation our team is required to report it the the proper authority. Students will engage in open, supervised spaces. If your child needs to have a sensitive conversation, the staff member notify another team member that they will meet with the child in an office with open or unlocked doors and uncovered window..

[Audio] As a parent, your involvement is important to us. Your engagement begins with giving permission for your child to join the CHAMPS afterschool program. We will also partner with you to help your child set and meet goals. We will also provide program updates through Talking Points. You are also encouraged to volunteer and support programming..

The workshops are: One Day away Keeps Understanding at Bay ”Attendance and its impact on student success. “Kid Thoughts” Review of students’ sead (Social Emotional and Academic Development) assessment scores and strategies to support student wellbeing. “It’s Not Taught the Same” “Strategies to help your students with homework, literacy, and math skills..

An educational experience to help students grow academically, provide social development, & community engagement opportunities. Parental consent is required. Parents are encouraged to chaperone and support field trip opportunities..
