Fiber Optic Testing Procedures. Fiber Optic Testing Procedures.
New Fiber Link Testing. Engineering will provide a fiber link schematic for every active link. All new fiber links will require following test for customer acceptance. Light meter testing end to end. OTDR test mandatory for all customer links unless otherwise specified. Light meter testing end to end, test results will be saved in the network drive “BWP-ElecTst$/Fiber Optic Testing/Noyes Loss Data/(Customer Folder) test documentations and numbering system file must be as follows; W20DIA - 707 Month & Year (7=Month, 07=Year) W20 is link number established by engineering (W20 = Warner, link #20).
OTDR Tests- MANDATORY a Launch cable must be used for OTDR testing. OTDR Tests will be done both ways and at two wave lengths 1310 and 1550. Results will be stored on the network drive “BWP-ElecTst$/Fiber Optic Testing/EXFO OTDR/ (Customer folder) and OTDR test documentation and numbering system file must be as follows; W20DIA BA 39 -707 .trc Trace format (Includes 1310 & 1550) Month & Year (7=Month, 07=Year) Fiber coupler No at test location (39=fiber coupler #39 at B) Test from A-B and will be documented in test results. A=Warner B157, B=Ascent 2130 Hollywood Way W20 is link number established by engineering (W20DIA = Warner, link #20 DIA Service) All test results will be saved as shown above in the network drive. Test information required on the OTDR test report; Visual trace Span length, including launch cable ( in feet) Event information (loss, reflectance) File ID as shown above Test locations A and B Job ID to be Link # (W20) Fiber ID to be fiber being tested (#39) Operator All other general information (Date and reference info) OTDR trace will be saved as a “.trc” that will include both wavelengths 1310 & 1550, once successfully tested notify BWP fiber Engineering via email of link is ready for use..

OTDR distance should be from the closest connector to the damaged fiber or break. OTDR the damaged section if needed. Provide engineering with the following information for review; Distance of fiber break form closest test location.
