[Audio] Situated at the heart of the heritage city of Vigan, the University of Northern Philippines offers one of the CHED priority programs, the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. The UNP was established through RA 4449 authored by the late statesman, Floro S. Crisologo on June 19, 1965.

[Audio] The College of Arts and Sciences was established on January 11, 1966 by the University of Northern Philippines– Board of Regents through Resolution No. 13, s. 1966, thus, is among the first academic units that were established following the creation of the University. The university started to offer Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science in the year 1996 in response to the needs of the times by virtue of Board Resolution Number 27, Series of 1996. The university reviews its curricula to conform with the policies and standards of the Commission on Higher Education ( CHED). Likewise, its academic programs undergo monitoring and assessment by the regional quality assurance team of the commission on higher education technical panels for the various disciplines and the accrediting agency of chartered university in the Philippines..

It seeks to study the interactions between the environment and human society using the tools of science in an interdisciplinary way. Its primary objective is to use the various sciences in the study of the environment. Thus, it employs the scientific method as its principal framework, and applies whichever science is needed to the study of the environment. Environmental science also recognizes the critical role of human society in the environment; hence it lays the groundwork for the effective management of the environment. In terms of the Program outcomes, it is expressed in the following minimum set of learning outcomes: a) demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge and understanding in the core areas of environmental science;.

[Audio] Best practices under the program includes organization of the Young Vanguards of the Environment ( YVE) wherein various learning activities are conducted. Interwoven used of techniques and methodologies in teaching like peer coaching. E-learning project-based activities were conducted during the on-the-job training. Also, one of the requirements of the course is for students to conduct a subject-based research, and the coaching of student researches is also done accordingly.
