Scene 2

Lateralization refers to the different specialization of the cerebral hemispheres. The left hemisphere is more specialized in language and control of emotions and the right in spatial thinking, perception of emotions and facial recognition.

it is a disorder resulting from injury to the parts of the brain responsible for language, and can cause problems with any or all of the following skills: expression, comprehension, reading, and writing. Injuries to the left hemisphere of the brain cause aphasia for most right and about half of left-handed people. People who experience damage to the right hemisphere of the brain may have difficulties other than speech and language. People with aphasia may also have other problems, such as dysarthria, apraxia, or swallowing problems.

It is the ability of the brain composition to change with learning, and is practically dependent on 2 components: age and lived experience. Influence of age on brain plasticity. However, it is not infinite, since it is linked to critical periods during which the brain is optimally prepared to achieve totally new functionality. Most of the boys learn to notice their environment, to walk, to dialogue and to have a relationship spontaneously.

Scene 5

The substantial difference between the hemispheres we are not talking about the functionalities that each one carries out, but about the type of attention that each one provides. The type of attention we pay is essential because it entirely conditions our world, how we perceive it and how we interact with it. If we do not pay attention to something, it is as if it does not exist. The right hemisphere attends to our direct experience, instant by instant, as “a whole” - including how resources are related to each other and to their environment. It is especially sensitive to the new and the unknown. The left hemisphere creates stable representations of our experience that have the possibility of being categorized, analyzed and subdivided into pieces. It is especially sensitive to what is known and which it considers important.

Explain how these concepts might contribute to your teaching, and, how they affect language learning in the classroom.

Learning is a human quality present throughout our lives, although our ability to learn diminishes with age. The skills expendable for our survival as a species are not acquired spontaneously, but require an active effort to learn. They can be learned at any age, as long as the brain structures necessary to carry them out are mature. Human learning is an extraordinarily complex process that lasts a lifetime. Although our brain is an amazing organ whose dynamism allows us to adapt to multiple environments and situations, its plasticity is limited by age and experience. Only a detailed analysis of each case will be able to offer us the most appropriate therapeutic care at the most pertinent moment, with clear and honest objectives.
