Bowen Family System Theory Created by Murray Bowen in the 1950’s Murray focused on the families as systems not as individuals and he believed that each member is connected and affects each others' thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Purpose:  To decrease anxieties amongst the family unit and increase differentiation in the Each of the members. There are 8 concepts that make up the Bowen Family System Theory.
