BLACK PANTHER. A black panther is not one type of cat—it's a term for big cat with a black coat. The black color comes from a high concentration of melanin, the same pigment that causes sun tans, and an animal with this trait is known as melanistic. Black panthers are a melanistic variant of leopards and jaguars. Opposite to melanism is albinism (an animal lacks pigment). Albino leopards and albino jaguars do exist, but they are much rarer and less common than black panthers..

Panthers can only survive for 12 years in the wild, but they can live for 20 years in captivity. Leopards can hear five times as many noises as humans including including mice's ultrasonic squeaks. The Black Panther is known as the ghost of the forest. It's a clever predator, and its black coat makes it easy to hide and hunt prey, especially at night — like a ghost. Black Panthers have amazing swimming ability. Black Jaguars loves to swimm, but leopards generally avoid water Black Panthers are very good climbers. Black panthers tend to be far more aggressive and unpredictable than their colourful leopards and jaguars. Black Panther cubs are born blind, they are first able to open their eyes after 5-9 days.
