What is SEND ?. ‘SEN ’ or ‘SEND’ (Special educational needs and disabilities), is a term used to describe learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for a child to learn compared to children of the same age. Children with SEND are likely to need extra or different help to be able to learn. Some children may have SEND because of a medical condition or disability, other children may have SEND without a diagnosis or disability..

Cramped or illegible handwriting Difficulty in staying on task Easily distracted Confusion in sequence of letters and  symbols (  e.g.  b  and d, quite and quiet, was and  saw) Delayed spoken language Confusion about directions in space, time, right and left, up and down, north and south,  High  level of frustration Difficulty in retaining information

Use clean fonts with spacing between letters Use  large-print text for  worksheets Speak more slowly and use simple sentences Highlight essential information Instead of giving text base works giving alternative works Schedule natural breaks to allow student to process Providing memory clues while teaching to reduce the stress Giving the opportunity to  give verbal, rather than written, answers (when appropriate) Using Apps  that can make learning fun by turning decoding into a  game Provide colored strips or bookmarks to help focus on a line of text when reading .

Using  multisensory input and  activities Offering  learners  choices Having  L-shaped cards  available Using  concept-checking  questions Offering  lots of opportunities    to recap and review  language   (including  drawing, music or rhythm, movement, gesture and  visualization  techniques .) Providing  additional practice  activities Using reading  programs that been shown to help  the learner      ( The  Wilson  Method, The  Orton- Gillingham   Approach   ,Preventing  Academic  Failure (PAF )The  Lindamood -     Bell Program   ,RAVE O ) Giving opportunity to Listen  to audio books as an alternative to  reading Using a ruler to help    read in a straight line, which can help keep them focused

Woodcock Johnson test (Spelling of sounds) Kaufman test of educational achievement (Letter naming ,letter checklist) Wechsler individual achievement test (Word reading) True and False tests Multiple choice tests Filling the blank tests Matching tests Essay tests
