The model is criticised as it does not reflect the real world in which career decisions are made..

Stead and Watson ( 2009: 137) states that career decision-making strategies comprise of:  A decision maker  A situation that necessitates a decision being made  Appropriate information that is internal and external to the individual  At least two choices or alternative actions  Several outcomes or consequences that are based on the probability of an event materialising and its value or utility to the decision maker  A strategy that is based on organised information  A commitment to carry out the decision.

However, the authors note that career indecision may not always be viewed as a negative term it could be that one may be undecided when one is merely keeping one's options open. 1.3. Prescriptive decision making The model suggest that learners draw up table and compare careers in terms of various criteria. It works with hard facts and the advantages and disadvantages of each are weighted and calculated to help the learner come to a decision Part of modern way of decision making Descriptive decision making This module is unstructured, emotive-intuitive and qualitative. The theorist involved in this believes that a very few learners will make decisions about careers in a prescriptive way and that most individuals connect intuitively with a career based on emotion Part of post modern way of decision making Behavioural decision making People make decisions on minimal requirements and that are good enough. The decision makers are satisfied but does not maximise Descriptive model.

In using the narrative method, I would question the learner about past experience that he or she had difficulty to overcome. Often learners would mention a traumatic/cheerful experience that left an imprint on the learners. I would ask the learner questions as to what stood out on the day, what emotions he felt and helping the learner see his life pattern unfold..
