Bangunan  British American located at  Damanasara  Heights, Kuala Lumpur was completed. 1984 British American was listed on the KLSE. 1985  Acquired a general insurance company “Traders & Merchants Insurance  Sdn   Bhd ”. 1986 Became officially known as British American Life and General Insurance  Berhad . 1989 John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company of Boston, U.S.A. bought over 30% of British American shares. This marked the beginning of British American’s association with John Hancock.
