[Audio] COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE DEFINITION A mix of elements in addition to strategic evaluations that offer the quality or representative of an asset which creates a unique product or service that points to a firm’s strength. This strength generates a viable position within the marketplace that drives the competitive nature to succeed above the others The meaning of competitive advantage can have several meanings to different business visions. The interpretation of competitive advantage has one meaning which covers all viewpoint. It can be simply defined as a distinct quality or representative of an asset which creates a unique product or service that points to a firm's strength. Broad differentiation Cost leadership. Burger King Burger King is an example of sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) and others in the industry of fast-food service. Regardless of which company you prefer the attempts to entice clients with a= wise advertisement for fast food choices was the going thing in the 1970's. Burger King advertised open flame broiled burgers as the competitive advantage. They later changed their slogan to "Have it your way", allowing consumers to customize their menu products to their liking, playing on the "customer is the boss" saying. Although the menu items did not change, they created a competitive advantage through allowing changes with no question. This offered flexibility in the 70's driving up competitive advantage with competitors who was not so eager to allow consumers to customize their menu items. [Audio] Competitive Advantage within Business Industries EXAMPLE 3 Disruptor Waves Competitive Advantage Disruptors are the benefits of one business product or services against another making them dominant in that industry for that product. When a company innovates a new product or service that outshines the competition, they are introducing a disruptor to the marketplace. An example of such introduction of a new business with name brand items that can also specialize in the introduction of retail sores in the late early 1870s as the first wave. The 2nd wave of retail stores came along in the early 1960's offering department sores with more competitive pricing but many of the same products. Then the discount stores such as out Walmart's came along offering the third wave further lowing the price of product and services in one location. In the marketplace as we know it we are living in the fourth wave offers of online services eliminating the need to walk in a brick and mortar to get the products we desire. Christensen, C. M. [Audio] Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analysis SWOT Analysis Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analysis are the four powerhouse words that can be used to expand a business' competitivities advantage in the marketplace. When the post work of innovative decline is performed it is best to start with knowing the strength the company offers. The weaknesses to began researching what or where the improvements are needed. The opportunities to improve the business sector and the threats of internal or external factors that can drive the business down. Environmental: The effects of the changes effecting the environment. Legal. Laws and compliances Political: Keep the business operations aligned with the Law. Economic: Analyze the rate of product and services exchanged in the country. Social: Culture and society trends. Researchers can use either of the two forms of analytical studies to identify the effective means to what is used in the way of analyzing the economy for the six factors that affects business. What does this mean you may say? It is a simple answer that has many complexities. The simple answer is "Use what they have to get ahead of the rest". Sound simple but is it as simple as that? The short answer is, "no", to become a enable capabilities towards competitive advantages there need to be awareness which requires research, testing and more research than more testing and there is the financials needed to make it happen. Without having the ability to remain competitive a business can fail as the disruptive waves continue to flow over time. Today we are more technical, and more and more technology are created to make things easier and more convenient for us.
