ALIGNMENT OPTIONS FOR SIGNATURE BRIDGE.
Summary • Main alignment is proposed almost parallel to Prakasham barrage. • Vijayawada Side is planned to take up in two phases • Phase 1: Merging with At-Grade Bund road • Phase 2 : Connecting NH65 using Elevated Roundabout • Two options are shortlisted for merging towards Amaravati side • Option 1: Keeping round about partially in river and connecting sitanagaram directly • Option 2: Moving round about towards ghatside.
Vijayawada Side Phase 1 • Vijayawada side out of total 6 lanes, 2 lanes (1 LHS + 1 RHS) arms are separated and merged along at grade Bund roads. • Remaining 4 lanes are merged with service road at mouth of existing VUP (2 cell) on NH 65. • As the level of existing service road at VUP is RL +22.2 and proposed bridge FRL is above +26m, very steep gradient is required (approximately 3.75% which is closer to exceptional gradient of 4%). • Further vertical clearance above HFL could not be satisfied in starting 40 to 60m of bridge (needs special approval from irrigation department). • Requires signalized junction development at grade.
Vijayawada Side Phase 1 RAMP TOWARDS KANAKADURGA TEMLE RAMP FROM PNBS AMARAVATHI MERGING AT GRADE AMARAVATHI.
Vijayawada Side Phase 1 ELEVATION TOWARDS VIJAYAWADA SIDE VUP SERVICE ROAD MERGING LOCATION.
Vijayawada Side Phase 1 (Cont.) • Pros: • Quick to construct • Relatively cheaper • Requires minimal coordination with other agencies • Cons: • Acts as quick-fix solution like replacement to prakasam barrage road • Do not solve the traffic congestion issues completely • The arrived gradient on viajaywada side is relatively steeper for daily maneouvering along this gradient, • The Q at the junction get accumulate on to the bridge due to proximately of the junction to the bridge proper during the peak hours(will be assessed through traffic studies and simulation) • They could be possibiltes of vehicles collusion at the junction..
Vijayawada Side Phase 2 • To make the solution complete, phase 2 is proposed in which a elevated roundabout is developed connecting existing NH65. • Part of bridge that was constructed (first 180m towards Vijayawada side shall be partially demolished for connection to NH 65 as part of the rotary. • Additional ramp for connection towards Kaleshwara rao market can be taken up..
Vijayawada Side Phase 2 (Cont.) ADDIRIONAL BRIDGE CROSSING CANAL RAMP FROM PNBS AMARAVATHI MERGING AT ELEVATED ROUNDABOUT RAMP TOWARDS KANAKADURGA TEMLE.
Vijayawada Side Phase 2 (Cont.) • Reduces the conflict points by providing comprehensive solution to address all the traffic movements • Avoids signalized junction • No issues with vertical clearance of structure above HFL • Gradient issues are solved • Scope for landscaping of Roundabout • Need coordination with NHAI/R&B & VMC • Need temporary blockage of certain traffic which takes time during construction. • Requires demolition of part of bride (NH-65 & 180m the proposed bridge) if planned to take up in phased manner.
Amaravati Side Option 1 • Round about partially in river • Direct connection to Sitanagaram • Arm connecting round about towards Amaravati side is taken adjacent to Sitanagaram road • As the FRL at round about is RL+26 and same at Mangalagiri road is RL+25, elevated corridor with moderate slope is proposed • Existing road is retained providing access to residents of sitanagaram • Length of Stay cable bridge is 800m • In future, possibility of connecting up to amravathi Trunk roads.
Amaravati Side Option 1 • Pros : • Will not obstruct ghats • Provides all-whether connectivity towards sityanagaram side • Cons : • As the roundabout falls partially in river obstruction of waterway is relatively higher.
Amaravati Side Option 2 • Round about is shifted towards ghat side • Sitanagaram connection is proposed along ghat • Arm connecting round about towards Amaravati side is taken adjacent to Sitanagaram road • As the FRL at round about is RL+26 and same at Mangalagiri road is RL+25, elevated corridor with moderate slope is proposed • Existing road is retained providing access to residents of sitanagaram • Length of Stay cable bridge is 900m • Service road between elevated road and hill must be planned to cater traffic movement towards Sitanagaram side from Mangalagiri.
Amaravati Side Option 2 • Pros: • Kept far away from river causing less obstruction to water flow • There is provision for landscaping and beautification with public access • Cons: • Slightly costlier compared to option 1 as length of structure increased by about 120m • As round about falls on bank, it will obstruct the existing ghat to a substantial extent.
