[Audio] Master of Science in Molecular Pathology is conducted by the Human Genetics Unit of the faculty.It is one of the oldest Genetics Centres in the Asian Region and was founded by it's founding Director, Professor Rohan W Jayasekara in 1983. Currently it is chaired by Professor Vajira Disanayaka Human Genetics Unit serves as the National Referral Centre for Human Genetics in Sri Lanka setting standards for Human Genetics in the Country Master of Science in Molecular Pathology is a 2 years program with 60 credits and course is delivered in lectures and laboratory practical sessions..

[Audio] The program aims to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes required by medical and science graduates to deliver the latest genetic diagnostics services. The program is delivered by a local and international faculty using a mix of open and distance learning methods..

[Audio] The course consists of 7 core modules conducted during the first two semesters and semester three and four are dedicated for the research project.

[Audio] We welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, including General Practitioners Ministry of Health doctors, nurses, mid-wives and health administrators Other healthcare professionals such as Psychologists, counsellors and Ayurevedic practitioners And others from diverse legal and policy fields and NGO sector specializing in sexual & reproductive health & rights.

[Audio] What will you get out of this programme? We aim to train and empower health care workers to identify, prioritize, manage, and refer on for specialist input, the sexual health needs of individuals and society.

[Audio] The two year part time programme aims to address basic sciences of sexual medicine the multifaceted dimensions of gender identity, sexual orientation and sexual citizenship norms, needs and sexual based anxieties in different group of society To identify individuals at risk of stigma, sexual abuse/ exploitation.

[Audio] Also this programme aims To manage problems and concerns related to family planning, sexually transmitted infections, and sexual disfunctions To engage health promotion and advocacy with an understanding of the ethical, legal and policy framework pertaining to sexual and reproductive health and rights.

[Audio] This Programme will be delivered in a blended learning format. small group teaching with Individualized feedback is our priority Communication skills, psychosexual counselling practical component and guided independent study will be mostly via in-person workshops. We also hope to include clinical observerships and visits to major national programmes delivering sexual and reproductive healthcare..

[Audio] Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma courses in Laboratory Animal Science.

[Audio] Postgraduate Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science is a 12 months program conducted by the Department of Physiology, on annual basis.The program covers 32 credit hours and is placed at SLQF level 8. The program has been designed for those who successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Laboratory Animal Science who expect to have knowledge and principles that are essential for the use and care of animals recruited for research, to apply ethical principles in lab animal research when designing an animal experiment and so on..

[Audio] The principal objective of the Postgraduate Laboratory Animal Science course is to impart advanced knowledge and necessary basic skills to researchers who are interested in conducting laboratory animal-based pre-clinical studies. During skills training, more emphasis will be given to alternative model use, thus adhering to the 3Rs principle ( Replacement, Reduction and Refinement) of laboratory animal use..

[Audio] Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety conducted by Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

[Audio] This program aims to train healthcare professionals about patient safety, including issues related to communication, errors and adverse events, teamwork, infection control, and safety culture. The expert resource persons will discuss ways to manage these challenges and how to develop strategies to prevent errors using real time case scenarios..

[Audio] The course was initiated in 2017 and up to now three batches have been successfully passed out.

[Audio] The main objectives of this course are, To have an overall knowledge on healthcare quality and patient safety, including factors that influence it To Identify, analyze, and manage common medical errors, and implement preventive actions To Comprehend and apply principles of quality health care including, quality management systems and quality measuring indicators in healthcare settings To have good knowledge on principles of infection control and be able to apply them in the respective work settings To maintain the expected standards of infection control during various procedures and in different settings To function as an effective team member of a multidisciplinary team To educate healthcare workers on healthcare quality and patient safety.

[Audio] Over the course of one year, the programme aims to recognise the importance of gender as a social determinant of health, identify gender differences and inequalities that affect the health of individuals and to distinguish between the gender differences and patterns of morbidity and mortality in men and women in relation to specific diseases. It also covers the gender differences of healthcare professionals in the work environment and harness that knowledge for improved output, appropriate responses to gender-based violence ( GBV) and seeks to promote the integration of gender as a social determinant of health into policy development, research, health services, resource allocation and project and programme planning, monitoring and implementation..

[Audio] This program is conducted by the Research Promotion and Facilitation Center ( RPFC) of the faculty which was initiated in 2018. The program aims to improve the quantity and quality of post-graduate research in the University of Colombo and Other Universities and research and higher education institutes in Sri Lanka by enhancing research skills, knowledge and attitudes of the research students..

[Audio] To be eligible for the program the applicant should process an undergraduate degree from any recognized local or foreign university. Priority will be given to those who are registered for a postgraduate degree, PhD, Mphil or MSc. Other than the PhD, MPhil and MSc students, the course participants have been from varied categories such as University academic staff, University administration staff, Medical administration staff and Trainees of Post graduate institute of medicine.

The lectures and interactive lecture discussions are conducted via zoom while workshops and one-to- one guided activities are held on – site. All these are facilitated by research experts with participants from same stages and different stages of research to share and learn..

Learning inputs are delivered through an online platform as videos, and slide presentations and pdf documents. Tutorials and case discussions are developed and delivered through online forums for the students to engage at pre-scheduled times during the week..

[Audio] Our Alumni are guided throughout their research career via the RPFC. They discuss and enhance their knowledge via the PG journal clubs organized and coordinated by the CCPR students. They join the research writing support program to obtain guidance in publishing their research. They participate in all the research training and disseminating activities conducted by the RPFC. The RPFC also supports the alumni to find local supervisors for their post-graduate studies..

[Audio] In the current genomic medicine era, it is vital for all medical professionals to develop the relevant knowledge and skills in the core competencies in genetics and genomics. The Department of Anatomy, Genetics and Biomedical Informatics is offering a short course designed to equip medical doctors to integrate genetic and genomic information into their routine clinical practice..

[Audio] The Training Program was first introduced in January 2021 and is open to all medical graduates with SLMC registration. This 3-months short course is conducted twice yearly in January & July by a team of global experts in the field of genomic medicine..

[Audio] Lectures are conducted online via Zoom twice a week on Mondays & Thursdays at 6: 00pm with onsite genetic clinic-based sessions and laboratory demonstrations once monthly. The course contents are delivered under 3 modules; Module 1: Basic cytogenetics and molecular genetics; Module 2: Genetic diagnostics and ethical issues, and Module 3: Genomic medicine and genetic counselling.
