Academic and Personal growth presentation.

Scene 2

I am Phumputha Chulumanco. I am currently doing my first year in Diploma in Management extended program. I will talk about how I have grown personally and academically in this academic year.  I will reflect on what I have learned about myself in my role as a first-year academic and myself personally.  I will explain how I have changed and developed in my first year at university and provide examples of my growth.

Scene 3

In this academic year, I learned what type of learner I am. I study the best through reading and writing. Discovering my learning style made me enjoy learning so much.  Even my grades got better after discovering my learning style.  have learned a lot of things like time management, pre-reading, making notes, and ensuring that I understand my notation.

Scene 4

I have made myself a study timetable. I write down everything I must do from the time I wake until bedtime on my timetable. I always make sure I stick to my study timetable to avoid procrastination.  I used to procrastinate and do my work the day before the deadline. When I have many assignments, I would be so stressed and try to do them at once. Working under pressure caused me to lose marks, now my grades are better.

Scene 5

I have learned to pre-read before class. I go through the chapter that the lecture will be on the night before the class. I browse through the pages and look at the tittle, chapter introductions, summaries, headings, subheadings, study questions, and conclusions. I used to attend classes without pre-reading. I would be lost during the lecture and end up lost. It was so hard for me to concentrate. Since I started pre-reading I can now concentrate in class.

Scene 6

I make notes during the lecture. I write in my own words so that it can be easy for me to understand. When I write down while in class, I leave blank spaces to fill in any missed information. I used to listen to the lecture and then remember nothing after the class. Writing my own notes makes it easier for me to understand. my marks got better ever since  I started to make my own notes.

Scene 7

I always go through my notes to make sure that I understand everything. If there is something that I do not understand, I seek Knowledge from the internet.  used to write notes and only look at them when I had to write a test. I would realize that time that there are some parts that I do not understand. This has made me lose a lot of marks.

Scene 8

I have also grown personally. I have learned ways to manage stress, listen actively, boost my confidence, let go of the past, and wake up early.  I have grown to trust myself and give myself all the support that I need. This academic year has taught me to be an independent person.

Scene 9

I keep a stress journal. I identify all the causes f stress in my life and record them. There was a time when I was going through a lot of things in my life. I would write down in my stress journal how I feel every single day. I realized that I was getting better day by day.

Scene 10

I have acquired skills to boost my self-confidence. I learned that I have to look at all my achievements. I write down all the things I am proud like getting good marks on a test.  I once scored low marks on one of my tests. I started to have negative thoughts. I felt like I was not smart enough. I then looked at my other modules. My marks were good, and it boosted my confidence.

Scene 11

Online lectures used to tire me because I did not cooperate in class. I did not see the need to ask or answer questions. That made it hard for me to learn. Sometimes I would fall asleep during the class.  I learned to listen actively. I started to ask and answer some questions. I did not get bored anymore because I was cooperating. I learned that to learn during the class, I had to be active  and show that you are paying attention.

Scene 12

I wake up early every single day so that I can have a productive day. Waking up early makes it easy for me to follow up on my schedule and not consume time. I set myself a bedtime alarm, get enough sleep and wake up early the following day. I used to sleep a lot and even miss classes.  I spent a lot of time in bed. That also made me procrastinate and have loads of incomplete work.

Scene 13

I have learned to spend money responsibly. I buy groceries and toiletries and my other needs. I avoid spending on unnecessary things. I have a monthly budget it helps me to save a lot. I remember the first time I had to do my groceries I did not know what to buy. It was my first having to do grocery by myself. I bought a lot of unnecessary things like chips and chocolates. My grocery did not last I had no money left so I had to ask for money at home.

Scene 14

In conclusion, I have learned many great things this year. I have personally and academically. Being able to manage stress is one of the things I will always be proud of. Learning new things has never been easy you need to learn to be patient with yourself.  ''Be patient with yourself. You are growing stronger every day'' - Robert Tew.
