Why advanced planning and scheduling (APS) required Problem   For example you have 7 Production Plants located in 10 Cities that can produce 11 types of product, there is 20 types of raw  material used to produces these 11 types of products. Certain numbers of People who operate the plant, for power supplies the rates are different in the day time and night time, you have 20 distribution Center.  One the other hand you have the demand for 11  products on certain Quantity at 20 Location  Now the Question is what the optimum solution, with limited sources against certain demand    Solution  You need system(APS ) then performs complex trade-off calculations between competing priorities in an attempt to balance internal constraints against limited resources.  Its goal is to optimize plant material requirements, capacity, and resources while simultaneously balancing it against customer service, resource utilization, and profitability goals

Advanced planning and scheduling (APS) An advanced planning and scheduling (APS) system is an application found within an ERP system. It can also be a best-of-breed application, but that requires integration into the ERP system. A stand-alone ERP system plans material and capacity separately, which often creates an unattainable, infinite capacity plan APS uses advanced mathematical algorithms and modeling techniques to perform finite capacity scheduling, material sources, resource planning, and demand planning.  The strategic level  is where high-level decisions and system design occurs. At this level, APS systems may perform logistics supply chain network design. For a manufacturing company, this would involve determining the location of factories, warehouses, and distribution centers, including which aspects of the supply chain will be owned and which will be contracted from a third party. The tactical level At this level , APS helps optimize production, distribution, and inventory across the supply chai The operational leve l  APS creates demand forecasts, demand plans, inventory plans, transportation plans, and optimized daily production schedules

Four Modules of  APS 1- Demand Management  : The APS system receives demand, resources and capacity input from or more ERP system. Its begins its analysis by looking at the customer information, customers orders, forecasts, promotional activities and seasonality in demand Management Mode Then it prepares a supply chain and organizational demand projection that is passed over to the  resource management module  2- Resource management module:  The  APS system evaluates the demand plan and compares capacity against constraints, supplier and manufacturing resources, and order priorities across the supply chain to define required resources

3- optimization:  The  system generates multiple planning options based on predefined customer service and operational priority rules in its attempt to select the best operational plan. The plan is then sent back to the ERP system so that it can be entered into the MRP application for execution in its master production schedule (MPS) 4- Resource allocation   Once planners review and release the optimized requirements, this module sends requirements to each ERP system’s master production schedule. Once resource is allocated through (MPS)ERP, Master production Schedule) provides sales and customer service with information  1-  Available-to-promise (ATP )  which shows uncommitted inventory and planned production in m maintained in master schedule to support customer-order promising.  Exampl e (Current available inventory+ Planned Production)- Committed Sales to Customer    (5000+ 1000) - 4000=3000 2- Capable-to-promise (CTP ). If supply chains are fully linked, the availability of materials for production can be added to ATP data to quote a reliable delivery date. Process of committing orders against available capacity as well as inventor Capable-to-promise is used to determine when a new or unscheduled customer order can be delivered. Example  :Suddenly a Customer order you 5000 units of Table, APS Check the available Resources and Raw Material  If you have enough wood available and you have production Capacity available at specific schedule. Based on this information you will quote the Customer based on Scheduled production

Once resource is allocated through (MPS)ERP, Master production Schedule) provides sales and customer service with information  Profitable-to-promise (PTP)  This combines CTP with a profitability analysis to determine how profitable a particular order would be after all costs are considered. Example   If you are capable to promise 2000 Chairs, 2000 Bed, 2000 Table, which product with Profitable to Promise
