Wild life sanctuaries is  an area of protected land that provide  protection and suitable living conditions to wild animals,  killing or capturing of animals are  strictly prohibited in a wild life sanctuary.

Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve for a unique and  extraordinary collection of flora,  fauna and avi-fauna (birds). The biosphere is a dreamland for nature lovers,  adventure lovers, ornithologists and  all the travellers. Located at a distance of 48 km from Srinagar,  the Gulmarg Biosphere covers  an area of about 180 sq. km.

THIS WILDLIFE SANCTUARY IS SITUATED IN UJH RIVER The sanctuary is dominated by bamboo plantations and  its shrub associates The jasrota wildlife sanctuary is rich in flora which is  dominated by bamboo plantations  . The important species are peafowl, red jungle fowl,  jungle bush quail, green pigeon and blue rock pigeon.

Lachipora wildlife sanctuary is  situated in the state of Jammu and  Kashmir, near the village of Lachipora, Kashmir.. The sanctuary is located  at the northern banks of the Jhelum river. The sanctuary was established  in 1987 by the department of wildlife protection. Wild goat is one of the most important species found  in this regionOne of the endangered species called  western Tragopan is conserved here.

The most scenic park in the state,  Dachigam is popular for the endangered Hangul or  the Kashmir stag- the only species of red deer to be  found in India. The park is situated 22 km from Srinagar,  covering an area of more than 141 sq. km. The actual beauty of the park lies  in the deep valleys, rocky outcrops,  steep wooded slopes and rolling alpine pastures.

In flora category, Dachigam national Park is  extremely rich in Wild Cherry, Pear, Plum, Peach, Apple,  Apricot, Walnut, Chestnut, Oak, Willow, Poplar, Chinar,  Birch, Pine and Elm. The place is well connected by road from Srinagar.

The main animal species that Dachigam is  known for is the hangul, or the Kashmir stag. Other species include: MUSK DEER HIMALAYAN SEROW HILL FOX LEOPARD CAT HIMALAYAN BROWN BEAR HIMALAYAN WEASEL KASHMIR STAG [ HANGUL ] LONG TAILED MARMOT

KISHTWAR NATIONAL PARK IS  LOCATED IN Kishtwar District in JAMMU and  KASHMIR  I  It was majorly founded  to protect the Snow Leopards that are now slowly vanishing  from the nature. Total area of the park is 425.00 Km2.

Types of farming     IRRIGATION Rice, wheat and maize are the major crops irrigated  by canals and tube-wells. Jammu District with over one lakh hectares of irrigated  land is the most extensively irrigated tract of the state,  followed by Anantnag (76 thousand hectares) and  Pulwama 56,000 hectares.

TYPES OF CROPS GROWN IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR 

In general, the Jammu plain has  a high concentration of wheat,  rice, maize, pulses, fodder and  oilseeds, while the Valley of Kashmir is  well known for its paddy, maize, orchards (apples,  almond, walnut, peach,  cherry, etc.) and saffron cultivation.

Glaciers in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are melting at a ' significant' rate, according  to a study published in the journal Scientific Reports. Over 1,200 glaciers in the Himalayan region saw  an annual reduction in mass of 35 centimetres (cm) on average between 2000 and  2012, the study found using satellite data
