Scene 1 (0s)

SAP Commerce Cloud PCM. Digital asset management.

Scene 2 (14s)

[Audio] SAP Commerce supports media files of all sorts. A media can be anything that can be saved on a file system, such as a JPEG image, a CSV or Excel file, a PDF file, an MPEG video, etc. A media item in SAP Commerce is a container object that holds a reference to a file. The media is stored in the database not the physical file itself, the media is just a reference to it. That is, a media item is not a file itself and the actual file can be stored either in SAP Commerce or may be located on a remote server or system. The media is assigned to a catalog version to control its visibility and the synchronization will copy the media from one catalog version to another. A single media item references one single file only. Meaning the same physical file can be referenced in multiple medias, but one media can only reference one single physical file..

Scene 3 (1m 16s)

[Audio] The main role of a Media Container is to group all formats of a media after making a conversion. So what is conversion? it is the process of getting different Formats of a given Media from an HD or high quality image A Media Format is a tag assigned to a media item to indicate its size and/or format The different formats can be grouped in Conversion Groups.

Scene 4 (1m 44s)

[Audio] So based on what we saw , Here is a qustion for you. How many medias are in this page? Take in consideration that a media can hold a reference to only one image in one size . the answer is 8 : 4 small images and 4 bigger images that are displayed when we choose a small image from the carousel. In the previous slide we talked about the format being A tag assigned to a media item to denote its size or format How many formats are in this page?. The answer is two formats , the format is the tag that indicates to the system that this small image should be displayed in the images carousel and the big size image displayed on the top of it. The format allows to do the mapping between the media and the slot on the page. We also saw in previous slide that a container Groups all media items with different formats of the same source media. So how many media container are in this illustration? The answer is 4 , 4 media containers as we have 4 different images but converted into different sizes..

Scene 5 (2m 54s)

[Audio] Images in various sizes are needed for different purposes .this is why The PCM module provides a functionality to automatically generate multiple media derivatives using The media conversion extension together with 3rd party image converter software : ImageMagik Using conversion , a single input file is converted into your predefined formats. The main image and its converted images are grouped in themedia container.

Scene 6 (3m 23s)

[Audio] The conversion process can be triggered manually by the user Or autmatically via a scheduled cronjob. And it can also be done in real time when requested by a touchpoint ( web, modile , etc)..
