[Audio] Today, we will discuss the mission statements of two regulatory bodies, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), which are vital to the nursing profession. The mission statement of NCSBN, adopted in 2019, demonstrates their commitment to protecting the public through nursing regulation. BCCNM is the regulatory body for all nurses in British Columbia, including LPNs, NPs, RNs, and RPNs, and carries out its duty of public protection by setting practice standards, assessing nursing education programs, and handling complaints. Let's now turn our attention to the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the governing body for RNs, RPNs, and NPs in the province, whose mission is to regulate nursing in the public's interest by establishing requirements for entry to practice, promoting practice standards, administering their Quality Assurance Program, and enforcing standards of practice and conduct. Please note that NCSBN holds all rights to this document, and using or reproducing it for commercial or for-profit purposes is strictly prohibited. However, approved or recognized nursing education programs in British Columbia and Ontario may use or reproduce parts of this document for educational purposes. Thank you for listening to this brief overview of these regulatory bodies' mission statements. This means that you must incorporate the cultural practices and beliefs of your clients into your care plans. It is crucial to recognize and respect the cultural backgrounds and practices of your clients. Additionally, their language needs must also be taken into consideration when providing care, and these needs should be evaluated and documented. Understanding the importance of a client's culture and ethnicity is essential when planning and providing care, as it can greatly impact their understanding and acceptance of psychiatric diagnoses. The responsibility of providing end-of-life care to our clients also falls on practical nurses. This includes supporting them in coping with end-of-life interventions and identifying their end-of-life needs, such as financial concerns and changes in roles. Providing psychosocial support to the family and caregivers is also a crucial aspect of this process. When it comes to family dynamics, it is important to assess the dynamics of the family in order to create a suitable care plan. This involves identifying any barriers or stressors that may affect family functioning. Scene 49 (4m 30s)

[Audio] We are almost at the end of our presentation on the REx-PN® Test Plan for the Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse. Let's now focus on the administration of the REx-PN® exam. Starting January 2022, the exam will be conducted through computerized adaptive testing (CAT), which uses computer technology and measurement theory. With CAT, each candidate's exam is unique and tailored to their abilities. The exam items are chosen from a large item pool, categorized by test plan and difficulty level. After each item, the computer calculates the candidate's ability estimate and selects the next item accordingly. This process ensures that all test plan requirements are fulfilled. Unlike traditional fixed-length exams, CAT adjusts the difficulty level based on the candidate's abilities, resulting in a more accurate evaluation. This approach also produces precise and efficient results by targeting specific items. This means that fewer items are needed to assess a candidate's knowledge, skills, and judgment. The REx-PN® exam follows the CAT approach to provide an accurate evaluation of a candidate's abilities. Thank you for watching and we hope this information has been helpful for your preparations. See you on the last slide!.

Scene 50 (4m 34s)

[Audio] Welcome to the final slide of our training video on the REx-PN® Test Plan for the Regulatory Exam - Practical Nurse. Throughout this presentation, we have discussed the key components of the test plan and its implementation, which will begin in January 2022. As we reach the last slide, let's focus on the examination length for the 2022 REx-PN® Test Plan. This exam is a computerized adaptive test with a variable length, ranging from 90 to 150 items. Of those, 30 are pretest items that will not be scored. The allotted time for the exam remains four hours, including the tutorial, sample items, breaks, and the actual exam itself. The length of the exam is determined by the candidate's responses, as the test adjusts based on their performance. This means that each candidate will receive a different number of items and may use varying amounts of time. It's important for candidates to maintain a steady pace in order to complete the exam within the given time frame, should the maximum number of items be administered. We recommend spending one to two minutes per item to maintain this pace. It is important to note that the length of the exam does not determine whether a candidate passes or fails. This is because the exam adheres to the test plan and provides each candidate with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. Further information on passing and failing rules can be found in this section. Moving on to the scoring of the REx-PN® exam, pretest items play a crucial role. These items are used to determine the difficulty of each question and are given to a large sample of REx-PN® candidates. Although they are not included in the scoring of the exam, pretest items are essential for the exam to function properly. In conclusion, the 2022 REx-PN® Test Plan will offer an improved and enhanced exam experience for candidates. We hope that this training video has provided you with a comprehensive understanding of the test plan and its implementation. Thank you for watching..
