[Audio] The Governing Board believes it is the right of every student to be educated in a positive, safe, caring, and respectful learning environment. The Board further believes a school environment inclusive of these traits maximizes student achievement, fosters student personal growth, and helps students build a sense of community that promotes positive participation as members of society. The District, in partnership with parents, guardians, and students, shall establish and maintain a school environment based on these beliefs. The District shall identify and implement age-appropriate programs designed to instill in students the values of positive interpersonal relationships, mutual respect, and appropriate conflict resolution. To assist in achieving a school environment based on the beliefs of the Governing Board, bullying, harassment or intimidation as defined by this policy will not be tolerated..

[Audio] Definitions of Bullying/Harassment/Discrimination Discrimination- student is precluded educational opportunities on the basis of his/her race, color, national/cultural background, ethnicity, religion, gender, sex, or disability (can be related to environment) Harassment- severe, persistent, or pervasive inappropriate conduct related to race, color, national/cultural background, ethnicity, religion, gender, sex, or disability and/or behavior that adversely affects a students learning opportunity or creates a hostile environment Bullying- severe, persistent, or pervasive conduct that inflicts physical harm and/or psychological distress on others (to include, but not limited to: fear, anxiety, psychological and emotional harm).

Dating Abuse- pattern of behavior in which one person uses or threatens to use physical, sexual, verbal, or emotional abuse to control the person's former or present dating partner..

These notices are to be posted in common areas of the school, including but not limited to: the front office, the staff work area, the nurse's office, locker rooms, and cafeteria..

[Audio] GPS Employee Responsibilities Any employee believing they have witnessed, or been informed by someone of an allegation in these areas must immediately notify their school administrator. Employees will provide written documentation in accordance with JICFA (hazing), and GPS Policy JICK (bullying/harassment). Employees who do not notify a school administrator of suspected violations in this area may subject themselves to disciplinary actions..
