[Audio] Hriddhi Sarker from the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Rajshahi, underwent an In-plant Training Program at Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS), Rajshahi, during the 2018-19 session. INMAS is a research organization under the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) established in February 1973 and situated at the campus of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The training program was supervised by Dr. Md. Zillur Rahim, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Rajshahi..

[Audio] Nuclear medicine is a form of medical treatment that utilizes radioactive isotopes to diagnose and treat medical conditions. This type of imaging allows doctors to detect internal organs and structures, and can also be used to provide targeted radiation therapy. Furthermore, nuclear medicine can provide detailed information about various organs and structures within the body that could not be obtained otherwise. Allied Science involves a variety of medical professionals, from pharmacology to occupational therapy, whose main goal is to deliver safe, comprehensive, and cost-effective medical care. Through the combination of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Science, medical practitioners are capable of providing advanced and accurate healthcare services..

[Audio] At INMAS, Rajshahi, our Vision and Mission are of utmost priority. As proof of our commitment, our In-plant Training program , undertaken by Hriddhi Sarker of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Rajshahi in 2018-19 session served as an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of various Nuclear Science & Technology based research activities carried out in the laboratory. This is one of the ways we strive for excellence..

[Audio] I had the opportunity to attend the In-plant Training Program at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) in Rajshahi in 2018-19. During this program, I was able to gain an insight into the comprehensive methods used for diagnosis and the therapeutic activities provided by INMAS. These methods included Thyroid Scan, Bone Scan, DTPA Renogram, Bone Mineral Density (BMD), CT scan, Radio-immunoassay (RIA) and Chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA). I also monitored Hypothyroidism, Thyrotoxicosis, Well Differentiated Thyroid Cancers, and Beta Radiation therapy after pterygium operations as part of my therapeutic activities. This invaluable experience has provided me with a solid foundation in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology..

[Audio] I recently attended the In-plant Training Program at INMAS, Rajshahi, organized by Hriddhi Sarker of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Rajshahi for the 2018-19 session. It was a seven-day plan starting with a general discussion and basic knowledge class. Days two and three were spent at the RIA laboratory, day four at the CLIA laboratory, day five on thyroid scanning, day six on bone scanning and renogram, and the last day was a follow-up session..

[Audio] During my tenure at INMAS, I had the opportunity to learn about the proper use of radioactive materials and radiation. Alpha rays are used to target and destroy cancer cells while leaving the healthy cells around them untouched. Beta rays, on the other hand, are used in tracers for identifying affected cells. Gamma rays have a powerful penetrating ability, and are often used in medical imaging. Among the most common radiopharmaceuticals used are technetium-99m, iodine-131, and iodine-125, each of which has a specific application in nuclear medicine, imaging, and radiation therapy..

[Audio] INMAS, Rajshahi has three departments: Radioimmunoassay (RIA), Nuclear Scintigraphy and Chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA). RIA specializes in tracing and measuring hormones and other materials through radioisotopes. Nuclear Scintigraphy detects metabolic activity within the body by radioactive substances. CLIA measures chemical components, such as proteins, by means of luminescent light. All three departments are essential to the operation of INMAS, Rajshahi..

[Audio] Hriddhi Sarker of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Rajshahi, conducted an In-plant Training Program during the 2018-19 session at the INMAS, Rajshahi. This program focused on three main departments, namely Nuclear Scintigraphy, Radioimmunoassay (RIA) and Chemiluminescence Immunoassay (CLIA). Two imaging techniques were also conducted: Thyroid scan and Bone scan. For the thyroid scan, radioactive iodine is injected directly into the patient’s thyroid and the gamma camera perceives the image without a carrier. For the Bone scan, Tc-99m methylene diphosphonate (MDP) is used as the carrier of choice. In the Renogram technique, a technetium-99m radiopharmaceutical was injected and captured perfusion for 20-30 minutes and assessed for up to two hours..

[Audio] I recently had the privilege to undergo in-plant training at INMAS, Rajshahi, which specializes in advanced medical diagnosis. During this program, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in using sophisticated medical equipment such as Nuclear Scintigraphy, Radioimmunoassay (RIA), Chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA), and Renogram equipment, as well as a SPECT Machine. Additionally, I was able to practice the protocols for scanning thyroid pictures by Gamma Camera. This experience has greatly expanded my knowledge in medical diagnosis and provided a better understanding of the work dynamics..

[Audio] Hriddhi Sarker, from the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Rajshahi, attended the In-plant Training Program at INMAS Rajshahi during the 2018-19 session. The program was centered on three main departments - Nuclear Scintigraphy, Radioimmunoassay (RIA) and Chemiluminescence Immunoassay (CLIA). In the RIA laboratory, Hriddhi was able to assess hormone tests such as T3, T4, TSH, FT3, FT4, Progesterone and Testosterone. Additionally, the general procedure for RIA was also taught. This training provided Hriddhi with the opportunity to gain practical experience and knowledge in conducting laboratory tests and analysis..

[Audio] I had the chance to get familiar with the ADVIA Centaur XPT during my in-plant training at INMAS Rajshahi. This is a fully automated clinical laboratory instrument used in CLIA laboratory, it integrates clinical chemistry and immunoassay testing in one platform, allowing for more efficient laboratory workflows. This system offers great flexibility, high sensitivity and reliability with results that are easy to interpret and access. Its flexibility, performance, and wide test menu make it a powerful tool in the fight against many medical conditions..

[Audio] The table in this slide lists some hormone tests that can be done in INMAS, Rajshahi's CLIA laboratory. Tests include TSH, LH, PRL, FSH and Vit-D. These tests can give valuable insights regarding an individual's health. With the aid of the CLIA laboratory, we can ensure precise diagnosis and effective treatments for our patients..

[Audio] Radiation can be harmful, but with proper protection like appropriate clothing, gloves and shields, we can minimise the risks. Technetium's main risk is inhalation of dust, so it's important to use the right type of respiratory protection and clothing. To ensure maximum safety for the personnel at the INMAS Rajshahi facility, Hriddhi Sarker from the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of the University of Rajshahi conducted an in-plant training program on radiation protection during the 2018-19 session. This program will be instrumental in helping secure the safety of those working at the facility..
